May and June are exciting months in education as our seniors bring the high school chapter of their lives to a close and prepare for graduation. There are many year-end events to help them celebrate their achievements, including Awards Night on May 14 where over 150 students will be awarded scholarship dollars, honor cords, pins, and stoles to wear on graduation day. The Senior College Acceptance Luncheon is planned for May 23 at lunchtime the library. Over 100 seniors have received acceptances to prestigious four–year universities, including UC, CSU, Ivy League and private universities across the nation. This year’s Class of 2013 will travel to Magic Mountain for Grad Nite on May 30. The last day of classes is June 6 and Graduation is June 7 at 5:00 in Panther Stadium. Parents are invited to visit the Graduation and Senior Events Page for more details.
Testing season is still underway with AP exams occurring the first two weeks of May. CAHSEE Make-up exams will be May 14 and 15 for tenth and eleventh grade students who still need to pass the test. We have completed our California Standards Testing for this year. Scores reports will be mailed home over the summer. I want to encourage all parents to review their student score reports to see areas of strength and growth in each of the academic test areas. Our goal is for all of our students to score in the proficient range.
Our Visual and Performing Arts Department has many exciting events planned this month including Center Stage’s Dinner Theater, Spring Chorale Concert, and spring concerts by the Concert and Jazz Bands. Please visit our calendar page for dates, times and locations. I hope you can attend an event to see the wonderful talent we have on our campus.
While this school year comes to an end, plans are underway for the 2013-2014 and our accreditation visit that will occur in the spring of 2014. The staff is working to prepare our self-study that will be reviewed by the WASC visiting team to evaluate our school. The Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) is one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States. The ACS WASC accreditation process fosters excellence in elementary, secondary, and adult education by encouraging school improvement, and recognizes schools that meet an acceptable level of quality, in accordance with established, research-based WASC criteria. Parents are highly encouraged to participate in this process. Please feel free to contact me for more information about how you can be involved.
I am very proud of the accomplishments made by each and every one of our students. Panther Pride is alive and well and I hope you will be able to join us for our graduation on June 7. I wish each family an enjoyable summer.
Yours in education,
