The top 60 returning football players are being highilighted each week in a countdown to the top ten.  Named from PVHS to date are:

19. Edgar Zacarias, Pioneer Valley, Jr. K (6-1, 170)

A kicker? In the Top 20? Yes. That's right. Zacarias was that good last year.

As a sophomore, Zacarias was named to the All-LPL and All-Area first teams at punter, though he may be a better kicker.

Zacarias didn't make all his kicks, but he showed off a lot of range and connected on some high-pressure attempts.

Just look at the 2016 game against Santa Maria: Zacarias drilled a 49-yard kick to give the Panthers a 10-3 lead against the Saints and later hit a 32-yard field goal that ended up as the game-winner in a 13-10 win.

In the 2016 season-opener against Nipomo, Zacarias had four touchbacks on kickoffs, a 30-yard field goal, a 21-yard field goal and four extra points. He also downed a punt inside Nipomo's 2-yard line.

Against SLO, in the second game of the year, Zacarias went 5-for-5 on PATs, but also drilled a 33-yard field goal.

Zacarias hit a 45-yarder against Santa Ynez.

He can also boom punts: In the game against Cabrillo he had a 58-yard punt and another that went 61 yards.

Against Righetti, Zacarias came up just short on a 50-yard try to beat Righetti at the end of regulation.

I'm guessing Zacarias would be able to make that type of kick in 2017. After all, he was just a sophomore last year. (He also made All-PAC 5 in soccer last year for the Panthers).
