At Cal Poly this past weekend, PVHS FFA took top honors at the Santa Barbara Section Speaking Competition that hosted over 450 students and 50 teams from the Arroyo Grande, Lompoc, Nipomo, Santa Maria, Santa Ynez, and Righetti FFA Chapters.

This is the 1st Banner brought home by the 2017 Ag Leadership Class and Chapter Officer Team.  The Chapter Officer Team consisted of DJ Claborn, Yadira Barrera, Fatima Ramirez, Gloria Contreras, and outstanding individual officers in Nick and Jordan Vasquez.  Pioneer Valley FFA also had 4 finalists in the open division out of over 41 teams placing 2nd, 3rd, and 6th overall with the outstanding officer in Katie Guzman. Seventy-two students from Pioneer Valley attended and were part of this sectional speaking competition.  The novice division hosted three Pioneer Valley Teams with one of those teams claiming 3rd place overall with outstanding officers in Eldaine Estacio and Jorge Mendez.

DJ Claborn, Chapter President says, “The victory by the officer team is a win for    the Ag Leadership Class, for our chapter, and school.  I am extremely proud of the  hard work that everyone has put in to this accomplishment.  What a great accomplishment to bring home the 1st banner is something special that this class and group of students will forever remember. Thank you to the teachers and administration that have supported our program throughout the journey."
