Twenty students from Santa Maria Joint Union High School District are currently in Washington DC for the week on the Close Up program.    Amy Hennings, SMHS Teacher and Close Up Washington DC Advisor along with colleague Rich Guiremand are also on the trip.  Pioneer Valley students on the trip include Alejandra Lopez, Stefanie Bribiesca, Teresa Gonzalez, Maria Angelica Torres Antonio and Kevin Gonzalez.

Upon their arrival, the group visited the Holocaust Museum and met with Santa Maria high school alumnus, Jenae Tell, currently attending the American university.  She was able to speak with the students about her experiences and going to college.   Students have a busy week ahead of them and on Wednesday they will be on Capitol Hill meeting with our representatives.
