Congratulations to 10th grader Franchs Hernandez (3rd from left), who garnered 3rd place in the Speech category at the competiton held on May 5th in Visalia.

“Speech and Debate require a lot of important life skills like fact-based research, public speaking, critical thought, and the ability to maintain enough open-mindedness to argue any side of complex and controversial issues,’’ said PVHS English Teacher and Debate Coach Elana Leonard. “Our students displayed a level of professionalism, intelligence, and diligence that was truly incredible to watch. We could not be more proud of what they accomplished, and cannot wait to see where this will take them in the future.’’

The director of the Region XVIII Migrant Education Program has announced that five students from PVHS will advance to the state competition for the Annual Regional Speech and Debate Tournament.

The students competed here locally in March and will travel to Visalia in May for the next phase of competition.  These competitions teach students how to research topics, express their own ideas in an academic manner, and write information in an organized fashion.  Each of them have dedicated many hours to research.

Congratulations and Good Luck to the following students:

Franchs Hernandez, 10th

Ashley Correa, 9th

Karen Gonzalez, 9th

Angelica Moron, 9th

Jesus Vargas, 10th
