Teachers Honored at Education Celebration

Congratulations are in order for several of the PVHS staff who were honored last week at the "Education Celebration" in Buellton.  This annual event is sponosored by the SBCEO Teachers Network that supports and recognizes public school teachers throughout the county.  

Dan Howard, Industrial Arts teacher, received the Marvin Melvin Career Technical Educator Award, given to outstanding career-technical educators in the county.  This is given in memory of long-time SBHS teacher, Marvin Melvin, who taught machine shop, metal and drafting classes.  

Roxana Maldonado, International Languages, was awarded a Curriculum Project Grant in Performing Arts.  Her project was "Introducing Students to Theater with an Ethnic and Gender Studies Lens."

Riccardo Magni, Science teacher, coached a team of of five local teachers and received an Instructional Strategy Team Grant.  The project title, "What's in my air?" was funded the SB County Air Pollution Control District and Southern California Gas Company.  Team members included Arturo Avila-Meza/PVHS, Annette Shimamura/SY School College District, Joshua Tenhet/SMHS and Benjamin Wieman/SMHS.
