Co-advisors Heidi Leal and Saira Diaz and six students were in Sacramento this past week at the NAMI California 1st Annual Youth Symposium.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental health.

With over 50 entries, PVHS Nami Club was the sole recipient of the Campus High School Club of the Year Award in recognition of outstanding advocacy and engagement around mental health awareness on campus and in their community.

The club has sponsored many campus events including the creation of a film, "Directing Change" and distributing green ribbons in October for Mental Health Awareness Week.  They have additional events planned in May as it is Mental Health Awareness Month.

New to PVHS this year, the club has a following of 70 students.  Advisor Heidi Leal shared, "I've been encouraged by the response from the students.  The club opens many discussions on the difficult issues surrounding mental health."
