Pioneer Valley High School students from the Advanced Apparel Class have designed and made garments out of newspaper, tape, glue, staples and yarn.

They will display them during a fashion show that starts at 11 a.m. inside the Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The teams selected a designer, seamstress, announcer and a model. The students had to come up with a theme, fashion design sketch, music and a written narrative.

“We faced many challenges along the road in this project, but we overcame them and had a fun experience,’’ said student Perla Chavez-Bautista. “I am excited to see how everyone reacts to our fashion show and newspaper dresses.’’

Panther Family and Consumer Science Teacher Melissa Diaz said the project put their “design skills” and “construction skills” to the test.

“We are hoping to have a nice sized, respectful and supportive crowd to share these amazing garments with.’’ Diaz added.
