In the face of COVID-19, graduation ceremonies are in limbo, but schools are moving ahead with planning some type of ceremony which could be virtual.

A drive-through cap-and-gown distribution was held Tuesday at Pioneer Valley High School, where seniors also were given lawn signs to celebrate their accomplishments.

Volunteers placed the graduation materials in the trunks or backseats of vehicles at times prescheduled by last name at the social-distanced event in front of the administration building.

School staff were on hand to greet students and their families are cars filed by waiting to pick up their graduation items.  A future event will be planned to award honor cords, sashes, and stoles seniors have earned.

District spokesman Kenny Klein said volunteers handed out about 500 sets of caps and gowns.  In the meantime, the district is in the process of refunding grad night and PSAT payments, Klein said.
