Life has continued since mid-March for students in our FFA program.  Thank you to our dedicated Ag Dept. staff for their support during these challenging times.  Here are some highlights of the many achievements that took place.

  • We had over 15 students continue to compete in speaking contests that were held over Zoom.  We spent many hours working with these students virtually, to practice & fine tune their speeches.  The contests ran from May through July.  Many made it on to the semi-finals.  We had the regional placements in Prepared Speaking & Job Interview.
  • Three of our 2020 seniors ran for state office via Zoom.  They went through several rounds of interviews, and we had one candidate make it to the top 10.
  • Three students ran for regional FFA office, presented candidate speeches online, and two of those were selected.  Marc Cabeliza is now our regional FFA Vice President and Elizabeth Pantoja is our regional FFA Sentinel.
  • Three students also ran for sectional FFA office, and all three were voted in.  Hannah Limon, Elizabeth Beebe, and Andrew Tinoco are now all officers representing the Santa Barbara Section.
  • We were able to hold a virtual FFA Booster meeting, where our booster members reviewed applications and voted to present selected seniors with booster scholarships.
  • On June 3rd we held a drive through FFA Banquet where we handed out program completer sashes, speaking plaques, star freshmen, star sophomore, and numerous scholarships.  The seniors & their parents were so grateful to have this event!!!
  • Over the summer we also had 3 students compete in a virtual Fruit Tree Judging contest.  The group placed 3rd High Team in the state & Miguel Perez placed 2nd High Individual overall.
  • And through all of this, we also had numerous student livestock projects for the summer fair.  Once the fair was officially canceled, the advisors reached out to the local community, friends, and families to help sell and process these animals.  We are so fortunate to have many generous community members, and most of our students were able actually able to make a little profit in the end.
