Cross Country

The Panthers Cross Country teams had a dual meet vs. the Morro Bay Pirates at PVHS on Saturday March 13, 2021.

The Girls team went first.  Currently undefeated, the Pirates would prove to be the Panthers toughest test yet.

Morro Bay's number 1 girl Olivia Fernflores broke the course record with a time of 17:04.2 in a truly outstanding performance.  After that it was all teal and black; led by Stephannie Jimenez, Makayla Gonzalez, and Katie Magni, the Panthers won 24-35.  Other racers for PVHS on Saturday were Maritsa Carmona, Melissa Marin, Claudia Cortes, and Irma Cortez.

The Boys team were up next.  Finishing 1-2 in the race were fellow Panthers Luis Campos and Juan Santiago.  Adan Pina and Orlando Marin were next for the Panthers followed by Nelson Torres, Ethan Stenhouse, and Josh Inay.  The Panthers were victorious in this race, too, winning by a score of 22-37.

Believe it or not, both JV squads won as well.  Individual race winners were Anthony Sierra and Ingrid Santiago.  This marks the first time that PVHS Cross Country has ever won all 4 dual meets versus a school (VG, VB, JVG, JVB).

The Panthers take on St. Joseph High School this Saturday at 10am.

Women's Golf

On a cold and windy Monday (yesterday March 15), the women's golf team was able to hold off the elements and Nipomo Titans for a 292-305 victory at a tough Monarch Dunes Golf Course. The Panthers were led by a pair of seniors, Clarissa Novela who was medalist with a 50 and Carmen Guerrero 51, who beat her opponent by 18 strokes. Joining Clarissa and Carmen in scoring were Marissa Dollinger, 63, Breanna Villalobos, 64, and Katrina Mata, 64.  Not scoring by rallying at the end of her round to post a 66 was Meghan Contreras who beat her opponent by 3 strokes. The ladies now have a firm grasp on second place as they look to continue their hot streak in cold weather. Their next match is Thursday at Blacklake against Nipomo, where the tee time temperature is expected to be a warm 60 degrees.

On Thursday, March 18th, the women's golf team took on the ladies from Nipomo High School. Nipomo was unable to field a full team to qualify for a team score, which means they forfeited the match, and our ladies claimed the victory. Teams must have five players to post a qualifying team score and Nipomo only had four players. That did not stop our ladies from attempting to post low scores while working on specific areas of their games in a competitive atmosphere. The ladies posted a team score of 287 on the Lakes course at Blacklake Golf Resort. Leading the way for the Panthers for the second time in the last three matches was Carmen Guerrero, who posted a medalist score of 52. Joining Carmen with scores in the 50's were Breanna Villalobos, 56, Marissa Dollinger, 57, and Clarissa Novela, 58. Katrina Mata's 64 was also counted towards our team total, while Meghan Contreres' score of 70 did not go towards the team total. The ladies will look to secure their second-place finish in league next week with their final two league matches against Santa Maria. Monday's match will be at the Santa Maria Country Club with a 3:00 pm start, while Thursday's "senior day" match will be played on Blacklake's Canyon course, also at 3:00 pm.
