PVHS Science Teacher Wins Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators

PVHS science teacher Riccardo Magni was recently named the winner of the prestigious Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators. The White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), recognizes outstanding kindergarten through grade 12 teachers who employ innovative approaches to environmental education and use the environment as a context for learning for their students. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is broken into 10 regions; they award one winner and one honorable mention per region. Mr. Magni was the award winner from our region which includes Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, American Samoa, and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, and Republic of Palau. The winners receive an award and recognition through a commemorative plaque and an award of $2,000 to be used to further the recipient's professional development in environmental education. Additionally, the teacher’s local education agency will receive an award of $2,000 to fund environmental educational activities and programs of the teacher.

Mr.  Magni started his teaching career in San Jose before coming to our District.  He previously taught at SMHS  and currently teaches Biology, AP Biology and AP Environmental Science at PVHS.  Congratulations Mr. Magni!
