Daughters of the American Revolution / DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.
This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.
Selected for the 2016-2017 school year for PVHS is Lara Carandang. Lara has been involved in both school and community activities including Marching Band, Gay Straight Alliance Club and SHARE Club which works to support victims of domestic abuse. This year she is also a member of the Color Guard. Lara has volunteered countless hours in the community at Marian Regional Wellness Center, the public library and local schools.
Career Center Specialist Mandy McDonald shares that Lara was one of several nominees who was ultimately chosen by staff from a stellar group of students for this prestigious award. Congratulations Lara and best of luck to you in the scholarship competition!
