Special Education teacher, Denny McKee, was recognized Octoer 19th by the Department of Rehabilitation for his efforts on behalf of his students.

The State of California, Department of Rehabilitation, celebrates October as Disability Awareness month.  DOR Counselor Ruth Jackson shared, "Each year we select people we have served who have found employment.  We also honor the employer who hired them.  They are companies such as Bello Forno Pizza, Jack-in-the Box; Children’s Resource Thrift Store and Terravant Winery.  We decided to do a special recognition for Mr. Denny McKee.  Over the past 3 or 4 years he has consistently referred students to the Department of Rehabilitation for our Transition program.  He recognizes the value of a bridge to adult life and the possibility of employment.

To be eligible for the Department of Rehabilitation a student must have a certified disability.  However, the word disability is broadly defined.  Mr. McKee refers anyone who has an IEP or is a 504 student or who has a medical condition that would qualify for the program.  He not only makes many referrals but he stays in contact with the Dept. of Rehabilitation to make sure the students are getting services and wants to know how they are doing once they are employed.  His efforts have positively impacted the lives of many young adults!"

Mr. McKee was also acknowledged with representatives from Salud Carbarjal and Jordan Cunningham's offices also in attendance.  Congratulations!
