It was an exciting day yesterday at PV as Vanessa Gomez, softball standout signed to attend Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
Coach Kristina Sewell shares, "Vanessa Gomez is entering her fourth season as a varsity Panther softball player, and is one of two seniors on the squad this year. Gomez earned athletic honors by being elected to First Team All League her freshmen year, and First Team All area her junior year. Last season, Gomez was a staunch defensive player at third base and helped carry the team's batting average. According to statistics from the Santa Maria Times, in 21 games she carried a .536 batting average with 10 runs, 30 hits, 5 doubles, and 3 triples.
Since she began her softball journey, it has been Gomez's dream to earn a softball scholarship. While a serious knee injury threatened to derail her scholarship dreams, Gomez once again proved her worth and caliber as a player by overcoming her injury. In light of all this and her obvious talent, Vanessa has deservedly earned a scholarship to play at Northwestern College (NAIA) in Orange, Iowa. There she will pursue a Bachelor's degree and fulfill her next dream of becoming a registered nurse."
