School principal Shanda Herrera recently announced Neil Eckardt as Teacher of the Year for PVHS.  "Dr. Eckardt is an exemplary teacher and a model for instruction.  I appreciate his willingness to do whatever is needed, and I am proud of the way he connects with our students."

This past year, he completed his 13th year of teaching.  At PV, he teaches algebra I and pre-algebra, but has also taught 2-year algebra and math support classes on other districts including San Luis Coastal, San Jose Unified and in Baltimore.

Reflecting on his award, Dr. Eckardt stated, "It is an incredible honor to receive this award! I've always felt humbled to work with such a talented staff at PV and am grateful to have the opportunity to learn from my incredible colleagues."

He is especially proud of students from this past year, so many of whom remained engaged and worked hard through distance learning, despite unprecedented challenges.

His Algebra 1 students embraced a new pilot curriculum this past year. The curriculum required significant collaboration and real world application. "My students showed remarkable grit and leadership in rising to meet the challenges of the curriculum. I'm excited about improving the curriculum next school year. It was an awesome experience to have the opportunity work with, and learn from, my talented teaching colleagues on the Algebra 1 PLC team -- Brooke Baarstad, Tina Watkins, and Sharon Domingues. Best PLC ever," he exclaimed!

"I'm proud of the significant progress my pre-algebra students made this year, for believing in themselves, working hard, and communicating when they needed help. I'm excited for them to take their work to the next level next year in 2-Year Algebra. I know they will do great!" he shared.

He noted that in addition to missing his physical classroom, he also misses everyone being together on the PV campus! "I so hope it's safe for us all to return to campus together in August."
