Principal Shanda Herrera recently announced Annie Stieger has been named this year's Technology TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment).
Mrs. Stieger has been at PV since the school opened in 2004, teaching freshman science until being selected as the Tech TOSA four years ago. Prior to PV's opening, she taught science and math at Santa Maria High School and worked with one of Cal Poly's local teacher outreach programs to teach teachers how to use technology in the classroom.
Her favorite part of being a tech TOSA is getting to work with many staff and students that she would not generally have the opportunity to work with as a freshman science teacher. "I love seeing the smile on a student or teacher's face when they see a resolution to the tech problem they were experiencing. It takes the best part of teaching--working with others to help them learn new information--and adds the ongoing challenge of constantly learning new information. I feel like I really get to make a difference for people."
In asking Stieger what it means to receive the award, "To me, this award represents the amazing efforts and teamwork among the district Tech TOSAs to respond to the needs of staff. It shows the value of what we do each and everyday. I have heard the individual "thank yous" and "you're so appreciated" from many staff and students. This award says to me shows me that my impact on the school (and district) community goes beyond just the individuals I have worked with. I am still in awe of the fact that I have received this award recognition. Thank you!"
Stieger shared, "I love working a PV. I love being a Tech TOSA and getting to work with so many amazing students and teachers. I love learning new things all the time. I am looking ahead to the new challenges we will be addressing in the coming year with the changes to education brought about by our current situation."
